Versa User Manual
www.teledynetekmar.com
The Versa performs a programmed series of operating steps. These steps are referred to as modes and vary depending
on type of methodology being completed. Basic mode descriptions are provided below. For more specific descriptions
based on your method selection, refer to the valve output charts with mode descriptions.
modes
mode
description
standby/ready
The Standby Mode allows the unit to be flushed with pressurize gas between runs to prevent cross
contamination and carryover between samples. The system also allows the heaters to reach temperature
prior to analysis.
sample equilibrate
This is the amount of time that the sample will be held in the platen heater to allow for the sample to
come to equilibrium prior to the mixing step.
mixing
This allows the sample to be mixed prior to sampling. Mixing allows the liquid to gas interface to be
significantly increased thus speeding the equilibration process.
stabilize
This is the amount of time where the sample is allowed to stabilize after the mix mode has been
completed.
raising Vial to needle
The vial is raised from the mix position onto the needle. The septa is pierced by the single stage needle
during this operation.
static pressure
reading
Once the needle has pierced the septa the pressure that has been generated by the sample due to the
thermal exposure is measured and recorded.
pressurize
Gas is added to the vial to allow the vial to vent through the loop during loop fill. This mode allows for a
pressurization setting and a time to be set, if the pressure setting is reached prior to the time the unit will
step to the next mode.
pressure equilibrate
This time allows for the gas added during the pressurization step to mix and equilibrate within the vial
prior to sampling.
Vial pressure reading
Once the vial pressure has equilibrated it is measured and recorded.
loop fill
Gas is allowed to exit from the vial through the loop thus filling the sample loop with sample gas for
injection onto the GC column. This mode allows for a loop pressure and a time to be set, if the pressure
setting is reached prior to the time the unit will step to the next mode.
loop fill pressure
reading
Loop fill pressure is measured and recorded at the time the 6-port valve is rotated to the “B” position.
Inject
The 6-port valve is rotated to the “B” position so that the sample loop can be flushed with the GC carrier
gas and the sample is forced onto the GC column. The vial is also removed from the needle and the first
stage of the sample needle is flushed with gas as a clean up step.
