Directory Structure
VM700T Video Measurement Set operations are controlled by means of a
hierarchy of files and directories that starts with the Video Source file in the
/nvramØ/ConfigFiles directory, and extends to other files in sub-directories of
/nvramØ/ConfigFiles. You can customize the operation of the measurement set
to suit your specific measurement requirements, and switch quickly between
setups as needed to perform different operations by varying the contents of these
files and sub-directories.
All ConfigFiles subdirectories, except Measurement Results, contain a file
named System Defaults. System Defaults files are used as templates to create
new files in a directory. (For more information about creating customized files
for a directory, see the discussion of
Configure Operations starting on page 2--9
in this section.)
The following pages describe the /nvramØ/ConfigFiles hierarchy and how it
controls the operation of the measurement set. The Source_Selection~Video file
and the Video_Source~Files subdirectory are discussed first. This is followed by
a description of the contents and function of the other files and sub-directories in
/nvramØ/ConfigFiles.
The Source_Selection~Video file assigns a file in the Video_Source Files
directory to each of the measurement set signal sources (A, B, and C). When a
given source is selected (that is when its front-panel Source button is on), the
measurement set gets parameter information from the file in the Video_Source
Files directory pointed to by the corresponding entry in the Source_Selec-
tion~Video file. Figure 2--8 illustrates the relationship between the current signal
source (as indicated on the measurement set front panel), the Source_Selec-
tion~Video file, and the contents of the Video_Source~Files directory.
The following text is an example of a typical Source_Selection~Video file:
Station XYZ’s video source file
Channel A Video Source: tx1
Channel B Video Source: tx2
Channel C Video Source: studio1
Timed Events: My_Events
With the text of the example Source_Selection~Video file, the measurement set
reads the file named “tx1” in the Video_Source~Files directory for parameter
information when Channel A is selected, the file “tx2” when Channel B is
selected, and the file “studio1” when Channel C is selected. The occurrence of
timed events (periodically scheduled reports and functions) is determined by the
contents of file “My_Events” in the Timed Events subdirectory.
