High Speed Recording Guidelines
To optimize your drive performance and avoid system lockup conflicts, especially
when recording to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs, or to CD-R or CD-RW discs at
high speed, you need to exercise the following options to enable DMA Transfer
Mode on your system:
Windows XP and Windows 2000
1.
Right-click
My Computer
and select
Properties
from the pop-up menu.

Click the
Hardware
tab, then click
Device Manager
.
3.
In the
Device Manager
window, double-click
IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers
.
4.
Double-click
Secondary IDE Channel
, then click the
Advanced Settings
tab.
5.
For the
Transfer Mode
parameter, select
DMA if available
.

Notes:

The IDE DVD-R/-RW drive is a true Plug-N-Play device; therefore, it will
be detected automatically by Windows 98SE/Me/2000-Professional/XP.
There is no need to install any drivers.

The drive is recognized by the operating system as a typical CD-ROM
drive. Once you confirm that you can read (play) data discs from the DVD-
R/-RW drive, install the Roxio software to enable recording to DVD-R,
DVD-RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs. (See “Chapter 3. Installing Software”
on page 13.)
