Drive CRU
Adding a Drive CRU
These instructions explain how to add a drive CRU to your library.
Required tools: Screwdriver.
1 Turn off the power to the library using the switch on the rear.
2 Detach the cover plate for the bay where the drive CRU will be added. Use a screwdriver to
loosen the cover plate screws and remove the plate.
Save the cover plate. If you later decide to remove the tape drive, you will need to reinstall the
cover plate.
3 Insert the drive CRU into the drive CRU bay. Using the guide rails on both the Drive CRU and in
the Drive CRU bay, slowly slide the drive CRU into the bay. The Drive CRU must be level to slide
in smoothly.
4 Tighten the Drive CRUs thumbscrews to secure the Drive CRU to the module.
The thumbscrews must be aligned with the module’s screw holes. If they are not aligned, the
Drive CRU will not be inserted correctly. Tighten the thumbscrews simultaneously.
5 Connect the host interface cables to the Drive CRU. If the drive CRU is a SCSI drive, and the
drive is the last device on the bus, you must also connect the SCSI terminator.
6 Power on the library.
7 Run the setup wizard from the front panel interface or the remote management interface.
8 Update Drive firmware by following the instructions provided in Updating Firmware . The library
can use the drive immediately after the tape drive firmware is downloaded.
Permanently Removing a Drive CRU
These instructions explain how to remove a Drive CRU that you do not intend to replace with another
one.
You can NOT remove a Drive CRU while the library is powered on.
Required tools: Screwdriver.
1 Prepare host applications for Drive CRU removal.
2 Using the remote management interface or the front panel interface, remove the drive from the
partition that uses the target tape drive.
