
3-4 IGNITION AND ELECTRICAL
IGNITION TROUBLESHOOTING
Perform the following ignition system tests when the engine is hard to start in order to determine if the cause
is in the ignition or another system.
START
Check the spark condition.
Check if the spark plug is in good condition.
(See page 2-7.)
Check the spark plug cap for any evidence
of the high-tension leak.
Disconnect the emergency/engine stop
switch lead wire (Black).
Check the igniter unit resistance.
(See page 3-5.)
[Primary: 0.5 – 0.9

Check the spark plug cap resistance.

[Cap resistance: 4 – 6 k

Check the air gap between the igniter unit
core and the flywheel.
