increased levels of carbon monoxide
Figure 29 shows a correct burner fl ame pat-
tern. Figure 30 shows an incorrect burner
fl ame pattern. The incorrect burner fl ame
pattern shows yellow tipping of the fl ame.
It also shows the fl ame higher than 1/2 the
Glass height.
If burner fl ame pattern is incorrect, as shown
in Figure 30
• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas To
Appliance, page 18)
• see Troubleshooting, page 21

NOTICE: Do not mistake orange
flames with yellow tipping. Dirt or
other fine particles enter the heater
and burn, causing brief patches of
orange fl ame.
Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame
patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 27 shows a correct pilot flame pattern.
Figure 28 shows an incorrect pilot flame pat-
tern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching
the thermocouple. This will cause the thermo-
couple to cool. When the thermocouple cools,
the fireplace will shut down. If pilot flame
pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 28
• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to App-
liance, page 18)
• see Troubleshooting, page 21
Note: The pilot fl ame on natural gas units will
have a slight curve, but fl ame should be blue
and have no yellow or orange color.
