Installing the Heat Sink
If not already applied, apply the proper 1.
amount of thermal grease to the heat
sink.
Place the heatsink on top of the CPU so 2.
that the four mounting holes are aligned
with those on the retention mechanism.
3. Insert the two push-pins on the sides of
the heatsink through the mounting holes
on the motherboard, and then turn them
clockwise to lock them.
Warning: We do not recommend removing the CPU or the heat sink.
However, if you do need to uninstall the heat sink, please follow these
instructions to avoid damaging the CPU or the CPU socket.

Removing the Heat Sink
Remove system power and unplug the power cord from the power supply. 1.
Press down a push-pin on the heat sink, and turn counter-clock-wise to 2.
loosen it. Repeat the same step to loosen the second push-pin.
Hold the heat sink and 3. gently wriggle it to loosen it from the CPU. (Do not
use excessive force when wriggling the heat sink.)
Once the heatsink is loosened, remove the heatsink from the CPU. 4.
To reinstall the CPU and the heatsink, clean the surface of the CPU and the 5.
heatsink to get rid of the old thermal grease. Reapply the proper amount of
thermal grease on the surface before reinstalling.
Notes
CPU1 and CPU2 are required for a system boot. Populating CPU3 and/or CPU4
will not boot the system.
CPU3 and CPU4 are not connected to the I/O Hub (IOH).
