To light the fireplace in a power outage:
1.
Confirm that batteries are installed in the battery pack.
2.
Set the unit-mounted switch, or wall switch to the ON Position.
3.
The unit should spark at the pilot and light.
NOTE:
If there is no spark, replace the batteries.
4.
Operate the fireplace normally.
NOTE:
Install new batteries (4 AA) in the battery holder before the burn season. Then, the fireplace can automatically
switch to battery power in the event of a power outage.
WARNING
Fire hazard. Can cause severe injury or death. The wall switch receiver causes ignition of the appliance. The
appliance can turn on suddenly. Keep away from the appliance burner when operating the remote system or
activating manual bypass of the remote control system.
WARNING
Property damage hazard. Excessive heat can cause property damage. The appliance can stay lit for many
hours. Turn OFF the appliance if it is not going to be attended for any length of time. Always place the remote
control transmitter where children cannot reach it.
Wall Switch Receiver Low Battery Power
Battery life depends on several factors, including battery quality, number of fireplace ignitions, and number of
thermostat temperature setting changes. When the batteries are low or depleted, the fireplace can only be operated
manually (ON/OFF).
1.
To test the batteries in the wall switch receiver, press the handheld remote control ON/OFF key (
Figure 43
) one time.
• If the wall switch receiver emits a beep, the batteries have enough power.
• If the wall switch receiver does not emit a beep, remove the wall switchplate and replace the (4)
AA
batteries.
Remote Control Transmitter Low Battery Power Detection
When the batteries in the handheld remote control are low, a battery icon will appear on the LCD screen (
Figure 48
)
before battery power is lost. Battery life depends on several factors, including battery quality, number of fireplace
ignitions, and number of thermostat temperature setting changes. When the batteries are low or depleted, the
fireplace can only be operated manually (ON/OFF).

Replace the three (3)
AAA
batteries in the handheld remote control. The battery icon will disappear (
Figure 48
).
Remotely Turning ON the Appliance
1.
Slide the wall switch to the REMOTE position (
Figure 43
).
2.
Press the remote control ON/OFF key (
Figure 48
).
3.
A single beep from the receiver will confirm receipt of the command. The remote control LCD screen will display
icons for all active modes, and the burner will light.
Remotely Turning OFF the Appliance
1.
Press the remote control ON/OFF key (
Figure 48
).
2.
The wall switch receiver will beep one time, the remote control LCD screen will display only the room
temperature icon, and the burner will turn OFF.
Key Lock
The key lock function disables the remote control keys to prevent unintended operation.

To activate or deactivate the key lock function, press the MODE and UP ARROW keys at the same time (
Figure 48
).
