4.1 Function
Application range
The type 9482/32 temperature input module is used to connect up to 8 intrinsically safe
temperature sensors to the remote I/O system IS1+.
The temperature input module is approved for use in gas explosion hazardous areas of
Zones 1 and 2 and dust explosion hazardous area of Zones 21 and 22 and in safe areas.
Mode of operation
Each channel can be used as input for resistance temperature detectors and
potentiometers in 2, 3 or 4-wire technology or thermocouples and mV transmitters.
When using resistance temperature detectors or potentiometers, the line compensation
for a 2-wire circuit can be performed by means of the keyboard or display of the
corresponding CPU & Power module (CPM or CPU & PM) or automatically via the
module.
The "4 channel fast" operating mode (adjustable parameters) achieves very short signal
delays, which allows for special applications, such as joystick applications.
If thermocouples or mV transmitters are used, the reference junction temperature can be
compensated for internally at the connection terminals or optionally via the external
reference junction (CJC) connected to channel 6 and 7 or via a resistance temperature
detector.
Each input is individually monitored for wire breakage and short circuit.
The interface of the Temperature Input Module to the internal data bus of the BusRail
features is designed with redundancy.
