Essential Performance
The Merlin™ PCS provides access to SJM active implantable medical devices (pacemakers, CRT-
Ps, ICDs, and CRT-Ds) but does not provide therapy. All therapy is delivered via the implanted
device.
The Merlin PCS communicates with SJM implantable devices enabling operations such as
programming, and the sending and retrieval of data between the Merlin PCS and the implanted
device.
The Merlin PCS provides visual and mechanical interfaces to medical professionals so they may
assess patient conditions and enable and assess the functioning of the implanted device.

Electromagnetic Compatibility
The Merlin™ PCS and the Merlin™ Antenna require special precautions with regard to
electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and should be used in accordance with the information
provided in this manual.
The Merlin PCS and the Merlin Antenna comply with the requirements of the EMC international
standard IEC 60601-1-2 when used with the cables listed in Accessories (page 37).
The Merlin PCS and the Merlin Antenna are intended for use in the electromagnetic environment
specified in the following tables. The user should ensure that it is used in such an environment.
