Introduction 

 

Echo sounders are designed to transmit sonic waves from a transducer and 

receive the echo reflected from fish or the bottom of the sea. On previous echo 

sounders, images were adjusted by the TVG volume and gain volume, so that 

the reflected echo could easily be seen on the echo sounder picture. 

This  Fish  Sizing  Echo  Sounder  needs  no  TVG  volume  adjustment,  and  it 

automatically and accurately corrects the sonic wave attenuation under the sea. 

  Fish schools of the same density are displayed in the same color regardless 

of the depth. The features of this system are described below.

In addition, for fish length measurement, which is one of the features of this 

system, the split beam method is adopted. The split beam method detects the 

level of a single fish (only one fish) with a main receiving beam, and detects the 

direction of this single fish with 4 receiving beams. By detecting the fish direction, 

the  effect  of  the  directive  property  that  is  peculiar  to  ultrasonic  waves  can  be 

corrected.  Thus,  fish  length  measurement  free  from  the  effects  of  directive 

property is possible with high accuracy.

 

For accurate fish length measurement, 

please use the following information for reference.

(1) Outside noise reduction 

The  Fish  Sizing  Echo  Sounder  uses  faint  signals  so  that  the  measurement 

accuracy can decrease when there is significant outside noise (running noise, 

interference, etc.). For such cases, measures are available,  such as reducing
