Applying cable shields to reference potential 

The following applies to the Extension Unit PROFINET and the Extension Unit PROFIsafe: 

Clamp the shield of the PROFINET cable from the Extension Unit flush at the rail for the 

functional grounding using suitable cable clamps as seen in the figure below. 

 

The rail for functional grounding should be installed close to the Extension Unit or the device. 

Route the functional grounding cable and the data cables in parallel and with minimum 

clearance in between.
