Protection against heat hazard of an arc flash > Performance levels in
compliance with IEC 61482-2:2009:
APC: class 1, 4 kA. The APC is the arc protection class. The garment
protects from heat hazard experienced by a wearer at a distance of 300
mm from an arc flash produced by a current of 4kA between 2 electrodes
spaced 30 mm apart
ATPV: 12 cal/cm² - The ATPV is the Arc Thermal Performance Value of
the PPE and is equal to the amount of incident energy emitted by an
electric arc that the PPE will protect before the user will start to experience
second degree burns.
PPE performances have been tested after 5 domestic washes at 40°C and
drying according to Method F.
Recommendations for an optimal use
▪
Visually inspect the PPE before use. If a defect is detected, the garment
should be replaced.
▪
Articles of protection clothing: this is a one-piece suit (AFG-1 coverall)
to protect the torso, the arms, and the legs at the same time.
▪
The use of additional protection such as gloves, hoods etc. may be
necessary for full-body protection.
▪
The correct performance of the garment requires it to be correctly
fastened at all times. Ankles and wrists must be covered. The top
garment has to cover the pants in all circumstances (movements,
bending forward…) and make sure that the lower back is always
recovered.
▪
To protect against electrostatic charge, it’s better if the PPE is in
contact with the wearer’s skin to allow dissipation of the charge.
Appropriate antistatic footwear or bracelet must be worn and if
necessary, the operator must be earthed.
▪
The environmental conditions and risks associated with the operator’s
surroundings must be considered.
▪
Specific point: your jacket or your coverall may close with an anti-panic
zip to allowed to quickly take off the garment in case of danger.
Usual use

Dirt, and molten metal adhering to the garment may affect its
performance.
▪

▪
Never remove the garment when in an explosive or flammable
environment or when handling explosive or flammable material.
▪
In case of inflammable projections, or molten splashes, remove the
garment
in a safe place.
▪
An increase in the oxygen content in the air may considerably reduce
the level of protection offered by the PPE.
▪
Sleeves may not be rolled up.
▪
This garment is not intended for fire entry, structural or wildlands
firefighting activities and provides no personal protection from chemical
exposures.
