Troubleshooting

12.2.1 DVL Power Requirements
The DVL is designed to operate from a 12-volt DC, such as batteries or power supply. The input
voltage tolerance is 10.2 volts to 15 volts. If the DVL turns on, the battery level can be monitored
from the
. Warning messages will appear as the battery level
decreases to 20% of its full charge.
If the battery voltage is less than about 10.2 volts, the DVL may not turn on.
12.2.2 Transducer Power Requirements
The pulseEKKO transducers do not require separate batteries for their operation. They are
powered by the same 12 V battery that powers the DVL. Power is sent to the transducers
through the transducer cables.
12.2.3 Transmitter & Receiver Power Requirements
The pulseEKKO low frequency receiver and transmitter both use two 12-volt sealed lead acid
batteries. The transmitter will, under normal conditions, run for about 4 hours or more on a pair
of 2.3 AH batteries. The receiver should run about twice that time on a pair of batteries.
Low Battery Indicators
There are 2 ways that a low battery voltage is communicated to the operator:
1.
When the transmitter and receiver battery voltages drop below 11.4 volts, the DVL
displays a warning message as the system initializes at the start of the GPR survey
line. The operator can continue to collect data but should consider changing or
charging the batteries as soon as possible.
2. The receiver and transmitter also contain a voltage monitoring circuit that causes the
Power LED light on top of the units to slowly flash when the battery voltage is very low,
usually around 10.2 volts and below. When this occurs, batteries should be replaced
soon or data quality will be reduced.
If the batteries are not replaced and the voltage continues to drop, the unit will eventually turn
off.
pulseEKKO 100 Transmitter
When a pulseEKKO 100 transmitter is being used with a pulseEKKO system (
6.1.6), the
pulseEKKO 100 transmitter is unable to communicate the proper battery voltage to the DVL. As
a result, the DVL low battery warning message from number 1 above is displayed before every
