12.7 System Overheating
The pulseEKKO system is designed to operate to a maximum
internal
temperature of 70 C or
158 F. In situations of high ambient temperatures or long exposure to direct sun, this maximum
internal temperature may be exceeded and cause the system to fail. While the temperature
displayed on the DVL indicates the internal temperature of the DVL (in System Information
under System Test) and not the GPR system, this temperature should give an idea of whether
the pulseEKKO transmitter and receiver are overheating. If you suspect that the system is
overheating, shut it off and give it a chance to cool down in a shady location before trying to run
it again.
If the situation is such that the high temperatures or direct sun cannot be avoided, it may be a
good idea to put some sort of shade over the system. Contact Sensors & Software Inc. if the
problem persists as there may be defective electronic components.
12.8 Creating a Test Line for Data Quality
After receiving the system and getting comfortable with its operation, one of the best ways to
detect any future problems is to collect a line of data at a convenient, easily accessible location.
The line does not have to be too long but one screen is a good guide. This data line should be
saved electronically and perhaps plotted out on paper and dated. If there is a suspected
problem with the system at a later date, this test line could be collected and compared with
earlier tests. When comparing data, take into account weather and environmental conditions,
which could skew the comparisons slightly.
12.9 Contacting the Vendor for Service
Return the system to the vendor from whom you purchased it. Have the following information
available:
1)
GPR sensor Serial Number displayed at the top of the
System Settings Screen
.
2)
A brief description of when the error is happening and the operating conditions
(temperature, humidity, sunshine, system settings, etc.).
3)
System log files
– these are downloaded to your computer during
