STEP 6.
Remove the power module from the TripSaver II recloser to prepare for the
next step, which will include installation. Leaving the module in place during
site installation may introduce a safety hazard that can result in equipment
damage, injury, or death.
DANGER
The TripSaver II Cutout-Mounted Recloser MUST be de-energized and
removed from the utility pole before attaching the “corded” power module
(power module with ac adapter and extension cord) to the base of the
TripSaver II recloser . The corded power module is ONLY intended to
be used for setup and data collection when the TripSaver II recloser is
de-energized and removed from the utility pole . (To provide power to a
TripSaver II recloser while it is mounted to the pole, use the cordless power
module, S&C catalog number 5954 .) Failure to remove the TripSaver II
recloser from the utility pole before connecting the corded power module
can cause arcing, burns, electric shock, and death .
STEP 7.
For a typical configuration:
Reinstall the TripSaver II recloser on the utility
pole. When the TripSaver II recloser is powered with line current (minimum
4 amps), the pairing process will begin. It is strongly recommended that the
TripSaver II recloser not be paired with a gateway until both are installed in the
permanent location. This pairing process requires the TripSaver II recloser to
be powered by primary line current, and it cannot be accomplished with the
configuration power module or cordless power module.
STEP 7.
Alternatively:
It also is possible to perform the pairing in a lab by using a high
current/low voltage power supply (not supplied by S&C) to power the TripSaver
II recloser. Although feasible, this method is not recommended or preferred
due to the possibility the following could result:
•
Safety
: The low-voltage supply could introduce a potential for inadvertent
contact with live parts.
•
Loss of Communication
: When a TripSaver II recloser is paired with a
gateway, it will not communicate with another gateway. It is important for
the user to physically track the paired gateway and TripSaver reclosers
from the lab to the final site installation to ensure the integrity of the pairing.
STEP 8.
Periodically refresh the communication gateway’s
TripSaver II Device
Management
screen. When the TripSaver II recloser is listed as “Connected,”
the pairing is complete. The pairing process my take between 5 and 15 minutes
after both the TripSaver II and the gateway are powered.
