Troubleshooting Overview
The following tools and switch control features are used to diagnose and correct problems.
LCD
The LCD on the switch control faceplate provides information about the present state of
the switch control. For an explanation of the faceplate and the LCD, see

LEDs
The LEDs on the switch control modules and the faceplate provide information about the
present state of the control. (For an explanation of the faceplate and the Power Supply/
Control I/O LEDs, see S&C Instruction Sheet 1041-540.)
The IntelliLINK software
The OPERATION screens and TROUBLESHOOTING screens display information about
the switch control, switch control operations, and switch sensor data. For an explanation
of these screens, see
Using IntelliLINK Software to Locate Problems on page 15.
To view these screens, you need a portable IBM/PC-compatible computer, a serial
cable, and the IntelliLINK version for this 5800 Series switch control. For more informa-
tion about the equipment required and how to use the IntelliLINK software, see S&C
Instruction Sheet 1041-530.
Electrical Interconnect Diagrams
The electrical interconnect diagrams, in S&C Instruction Sheet 1041-530, show the switch
control wiring layout.
Test Points
Most of the wiring in the switch control enclosure is terminated in insulation displacement
connectors. To test a pin, gently slide the black plastic cap sideways on the connector
until the pin is exposed. Test the pin, then replace the cap to protect the wiring from dust
and to prevent shorts. Avoid inserting the test probe into the connector receptacle as this
may damage the connector.
