The so-performed alignment will be corrected to allow for the

tightening of pump flanges on pipes and depending on the tem-

peratures attained in service.

Note

: it is recommended, after one week of operation, to check

the alignment again.

5.2 Hydraulic connections (see FIG.2)

- The suction pipe

(I)

will have an ascending slope (2 % mini.)

without counter-slope, in order to prevent the formation of air

pockets and the risks of de-energizing. If the pipe diameter is

greater than that of the pump suction port, the connection

shall be performed through a cone with horizontal generatrix

(F)

. Comply with the proportions concerning the diameter

lengths and progressions for increasers and reducers

(F and G)

.

(NFE 44201).

- As the pump is not self-priming, it is mandatory, for a suction ope-

ration, that the pipe should be fitted with a strainer foot valve

(J)

.

- Perform a single rigid attachment

(H)

close to pump, combined

with large-radius elbow

(K)

, to compensate for thermal expan-

sion of the pipe.

- The pump must never be used as a support for pipes. Pipes must

be secured to the ground or wall (pipe support:

(H)

.

- Check that the connection of pipes to the pump leads to no

stresses able to cause a misalignment. In particular, bolts should

always penetrate freely in mounting holes, they will be tighte-

ned progressively and always in a diametrically opposed way.

- In installations where silence is wanted, provide on pump ports an

anti-vibration connection, for example using rubber sleeves able

to bear the vacuum on suction and the pressure on discharge.

- Carefully clean the inside of pipes.

Annex connections (on N0 200-250D3 only)

Cooled bottom for liquid pumped at more than 105 °C (140 °C

maxi.), with circulation of cooling water

(see FIG.4)

.

- tapped connection ports

: 1/4” dia.

- mean flowrates of cooling water

: 200 l/h

- pressure in cooling circuit

: 1 bar

- fluid

: non-incrusting waters

5.3 Electrical connections

The electrical connections and checks must be made by

a licensed electrician and comply with applicable local

standards.

Motor protection mandatory by circuit-breaker with thermal and

magnetic protection.

- Check the voltage of available network.

- Read the instruction on cover of the motor terminal box

- Use a cable complying with EDF (French electricity board) stan-

dards (4 cond Earth) and connect to motor terminal

block (diagram inside the box, or see

FIG.5

).

DO NOT FORGET TO CONNECT THE EARTH TERMINAL.

An error on electrical connection damages the motor. The

cable shall never touch the pipe or the pump.

6. STARTING UP

Before the first putting into service, perform mode-

rate greasing of lubricated rolling bearings.

For equipment with IP55 motors, put the plugs blanking the

condensates discharge ports back in place (the plugs are sup-

plied with the pump).

6.1 Filling - Venting

Never operate the pump dry, even momentarily.

- Fill the pump and suction pipe with the liquid to be conveyed.

After complete evacuation of the air, close the filling port.

- Make sure that no hard points subsist, by turning the pump by

hand through the coupling.

6.2 Check of the direction of rotation

- Power up the motor and check it turns in the direction indica-

ted by the arrow on pump body or on bearing (operation to be

performed with the pump being uncoupled). In case of rever-

sal, cross two phase wires on the motor terminal block (or at the

circuit-breaker).

6.3 Circuit-breaker

- Perform fine adjustment of the electrical protection, using an

ammeter connected to the motor under load.

- With motor stopped, cut a phase, power the motor back up

and make sure the tripping is instantaneous.

- Check that the current consumption is lower than indicated on

the motor data plate.

6.4 Operation

Never operate the pump with no-flow condition

for more than 10 minutes.

- Check:

• for correct direction of rotation of the motor (pump uncoupled)

• that the mounting of pipes has not misaligned the motor-

pump shaft axes

• that the pump is full of liquid and that the air bleeding has well

been performed

• for tightness of gaskets of the suction duct to palliate any air

penetration.

- Put the motor-pump into service for a short instant and check

for regularity of return to stop.

- Starting the pump is performed with the discharge valve being

almost closed.

- Progressively open the valve up to the required operating pres-

sure (check the maximum current).

- Pumps with low characteristics can then be started directly with

the discharge valve open in a position set to the operating

point.

Fabric packing

After a few hours operation, more significant leakage is necessa-

ry. This leakage must be reduced a few operating hours, by tigh-

tening the gland evenly and without exaggerating in order to

prevent the shaft from overheating.

The gland must above all not heat. A well adjusted gland should

slightly and continually leak (10 to 20 drops per minute in operation).

Mechanical seal

A mechanical seal must never turn dry, even for

a short instant.

Light leakage may occur during the run-in period. This leakage

will be attenuated after a few operating hours, possibly remai-

ning visible in the case of greasy fluids (oil).

Bleed the high points of the installation, pump and mechanical seal.

7. MAINTENANCE

Check that the pump turns regularly and without vibration.

Check the coupling catches.

Check for perfect greasing.

In any case, check the alignment of coupling shaft axes.

On pumps with an IP55 motor, periodically remove the plugs from

the motors (on the front and rear bearings) to allow evacuation

of any condensates. In some cases, the fan cover must be remo-

ved.
