XML and the Device Configuration Program
DCP-XML provides a means to control the QuadraVista QF remotely through a computer using the RS-232
serial port on the computer.
DCP (Device Control Protocol) is an XML-based protocol. Using DCP, all the important settings of the
QuadraVista QF can be queried and changed. A general description of XML can be found at
http://www.w3.org/XML/.
The XML scheme for DCP can be found on the enclosed CD, under the name “dcp.xsd”. For a detailed
description on how to use DCP-XML with the QuadraVista QF, please see the accompanying “DCP-XML
Manual”.
DCP has two modes:
control
and
synchronize
. The
control
mode is used for direct control of the QuadraVista
QF unit from a computer. This is accomplished using the ConfDev Device Configuration program, and is
described in further detail below. The
synchronize
mode is used to synchronize multiple linked devices. This
has been described in the DCP Synchronize section found on page 26.
Device Configuration Program
The Device Configuration Program
ConfDev
allows the user to operate the OSD of the QuadraVista QF
remotely from an external Windows computer through a serial connection.
Other operations available through the
ConfDev
program include uploading a background image to the
QuadraVista QF unit, and loading and saving configurations. Each of these operations is described further
below.
Installing the ConfDev Program
In order to install the
ConfDev
device configuration software, the following are needed.
A computer running Microsoft Windows with a free USB or RS 232 COM-port;
the QuadraVista QF unit;
the
confdevEn.exe
program found on the accompanying installation CD; and
the included “serial cable” (RJ45-DB9 a RJ45 CAT5 cable) described in Appendix D
Use the serial cable to connect the COM port of the Windows computer to the serial port on the QuadraVista
QF. Alternatively, connect a USB A-B cable between a USB Type A port on the computer and the
Control
USB
Type B port on the unit.
Note:
The virtual COM port USB driver can be downloaded from the Future Technology Devices International
Ltd. website at www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
