10.1.2 Brooder Control Wirin g
The heater o u tp u ts on the brooder controller w ill act
as the ON/OFF s w itch in the control circ u it. The R
and W terminals (T24 and T25) on the heater control
board are
w ired to the heater o u tp u t terminal on the
brooder controller. If the brooder controller o u tp u ts
pro v ide line v oltage o u tp u t, a contactor m u st be
installed bet w een the brooder controller and the
heater R and W terminals (T24 and T25). Po w er
m u st not be s u pplied to the “thermostat” (R and W)
circ u it. The brooder controller m u st only pro v ide the
opening and closing (dry contact) of the “thermostat”
(R and W) circ
u it. The heater that is w ired to the
brooder o u tp u t terminals w ill be designated as a
“central” heater. If there are m u ltiple heaters in a
heating zone, the control w iring for all of the other
heaters in the zone w ill be w ired in series (daisy-
chain) from the “central” heater’s “firing rate o u t”
terminals (T30 and T31). See Figure 20 . The
j u mpers on the J10 pin block on the heater control
board m u st set by the installer as sho w n in Figure 20 .
The “central” heater w ill ha v e both j u mpers on the
J10 pin
block on the right-most pins as sho w n if Figure 20 .
The satellite heaters w ill ha v e the J10 pin j u mpers set
on the left-most pins.
10.1.3 Operation
D u ring the heater operation, the heater w ill
a u tomatically mod u late based on the brooder
controller’s ON/OFF o u tp u t timing and history u sing
an algorithm programmed into the heater’s control
board. The “central” heater
w ill determine the
appropriate heater b u rn rate and any satellite heaters
w ill mod u late to the same b u rn rate based on the
central heater’s commands.
NOTE: D u ring the cycling of the heaters, the heaters
may still be operating e v en tho u gh the brooder
controller may not be calling for heat. This is normal
operation of the mod
u lating heater. After satisfying
the req u ired temperat u re, the heater w ill contin u e to
r u n at a lo w er b u rn rate to maintain the temperat u re
as close to the temperat u re setpoint as possible. The
heater w ill completely t u rn off once it mod u lates the
b u rn rate to the lo w est setting.
