SECTION 8 : VENTING
8 .1 Ventin g
This heater m u st be v ented in accordance w ith the
r u les contained in this man u al and w ith the follo w ing
national codes and any state, pro v incial or local
codes w hich may apply:
United States: Refer to National F u el Gas Code
NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1 - latest re v ision.
Canada: Refer to Nat u ral Gas and Propane
Installation Code CSA B149.1 - latest re v ision.
In brooder installations, affix brooder v entilation w all
tag (P/N 91039300) adjacent to the heater
thermostat. In the absence of a thermostat, the
w all
tag m u st be posted in a conspic u o u s location.

(10 cm) v ent
pipe u sing the v ent adapter (P/N 90502700). To
pre v ent leakage of condensation, install the v ent
adapter w ith the seam on top and seal the joint u sing
a high temperat u re silicone sealant.
Any portion of v ent pipe passing thro u gh a
comb u stible w all m u st ha v e an appro v ed thimble
to conform w ith the abo v e listed codes.
Vent pipe m u st be sloped do w n w ard a w ay from the
b u rner 1/2'' (1 cm) for e v ery 20' (6 m).
The heater may be indi v id u ally v ented or common
v ented. When v enting horizontally, a maxim u m of t w o
heaters can be commonly v ented. See Page 33,
Section 8.9 . When v enting v ertically, a maxim u m of
fo u r heaters can be commonly v ented. See Page 34,
Section 8.10 .
The heater may also be installed u n v ented in certain
circ u mstances according to b u ilding v entilation codes.
Refer to the abo v e codes and Page 31, Section 8.2 for
f u rther information. Un v ented operation also req u ires
compliance w ith the clearances to comb u stibles gi v en
on Page 8, Figure 9 .
The bottom of the v ent or air intake terminal shall not
be located less than 1' (.3 m) abo v e grade le v el.
The v ent shall not terminate less than 7' (2.1 m) abo v e
grade w here located adjacent to p u blic w alk w ays.
Vent terminal m u st be installed at a height s u fficient to
pre v ent blockage by sno w and b u ilding materials
protected from degradation by fl u e gasses.
Sec u re all joints w ith #8 x 3/8 sheet metal scre w s.
Seal all joints w ith high temperat u re silicone sealant.
Vent terminal m u st be beyond any comb u stible
o v erhang.
8 .1.1 United States Re q uirements
Vent m u st terminate at least 3' (.9 m) abo v e any forced
air inlet located w ithin 10' (3.1 m).
Vent m u st terminate at least 4' (1.2 m) belo w ,
4' (1.2 m) horizontally from, or 1' (.3 m) abo v e any
door, operable w indo w , or gra v ity air inlet into any
b u ilding.
8 .1.2 Canadian Re q uirements
The v ent shall not terminate w ithin 6' (1.8 m) of a
mechanical air s u pply inlet to any b u ilding.
The v ent shall not terminate w ithin 3' (.9 m) of a
w indo w or door that can be opened in any b u ilding,
any non-mechanical air s u pply inlet to any b u ilding, or
of the comb u stion air inlet of any other appliance.
8 .2 Unvented Operation
S u fficient v entilation m u st be pro v ided in the amo u nt
of 4 cfm per 1000 Bt u /h firing rate (United States); 3
cfm per 1000 Bt u /h firing rate (Canada).
Use of optional o u tside comb u stion air is not
recommended w ith u n v ented heaters.

Heaters installed unvented must be interlocked
with sufficient building exhaust.
Heaters must be installed according to the
installation manual.
Failure to follow these instructions can result
in death or injury.
