START CONDENS 25 - 29 Kis
2.3 - Installation on appliances that are
old or that need to be updated
When the
START CONDENS Kis
boilers are installed in old systems
or systems to refurbish, check that:
• The smoke pipe is suitable for the temperature of the combus-
tion products with condensation, calculated and built according
to Standard, is as straight as possible, airtight, insulated and has
no blockages or narrow sections. It is equipped with appropriate
condensate collection and discharge systems.
• The electrical system is installed in compliance with the specific
standards and by qualified personnel.
• The fuel supply line and eventual tank (LPG) are made according
to specific Standards.
• The expansion tank ensures the total absorption of the dilatation
of the fluid contained in the system.
• The flow rate and head of the circulator are suitable to the charac-
teristics of the system.
• The system has been washed and cleaned of mud and grime, de-
aerated and water tight. It is recommended to install a magnetic
filter on the return of the system.
• The boiler condensate drain system (siphon) is connected and
routed to the collection of "white" water.
9
The manufacturer is not liable for any damage resulting from the
incorrect construction of the flue gas discharge system.
9
The flue gas discharge pipes for condensing boilers are made of
special materials that are different compared to those made for
standard boilers.
2.4 - Boiler installation (fig. 2)
For a correct installation, keep in mind that:
• The boiler must not be placed above a stove or other cooking
appliance
• It is forbidden to leave inflammable products in the room where
the boiler is installed
• Heat-sensitive walls (e.g. wooden walls) must be protected with
proper insulation
• The minimum clearances for technical and maintenance interven-
tions must be respected.
The boiler can be installed indoor and outdoor, in a partially pro-
tected place (i.e. a place where the boiler is not exposed to direct
contact or infiltration of rain, snow or hail). The boiler can operate in
a temperature range from 0°C to +60°C. For further details, refer to
“Anti-freeze system” section.
Indoor installation (fig. 3)
They may be installed in numerous rooms as long as the combus-
tion product outlet and combustion air suction are brought outside
the room itself. In this case, the room does not require any ventila-
tion opening because these are boilers with an "airtight" combustion
circuit in relation to the installation environment.
If, instead, the combustion air is picked up from the installation room,
the latter must be equipped with ventilation openings compliant with
Technical Standards and suitably dimensioned.
Consider the clearances necessary to access safety and adjustment
devices and to perform maintenance operations.
Check that the electric protection level of the appliance is adapted to
the installation room characteristics.
In case the boilers are supplied with fuel gas of a specific weight
greater than that of the air, the electric parts will have to be placed at
a level above the ground greater than 500 mm.
Outdoor installation (fig. 4)
The boiler must be installed in a partially protected place or, in other
words, it must not be directly exposed to the action of the weather.
The boiler is fitted as standard with an automatic anti-freeze system
that activates when the temperature of the water in the primary cir-
cuit falls below 5°C.
To take advantage of this protection (based on burner operation),
the boiler must be able to switch itself on; any lockout condition (for
ex. due to a lack of gas or electrical supply, or the intervention of a
safety device) therefore deactivates the protection.
Anti-freeze system
The boiler is fitted as standard with an automatic anti-freeze system
that activates when the temperature of the water in the primary cir-
cuit falls below 5°C.
This system is always active, guaranteeing boiler protection down to
an installation area temperature of
0
°C.
9
To take advantage of this protection (based on burner opera-
tion), the boiler must be able to switch itself on; any lockout con-
dition (for ex. due to a lack of gas or electrical supply, or the inter-
vention of a safety device) therefore deactivates the protection.
The anti-freeze protection is also active when the boiler is
on standby.
9
When the boiler is installed in a location with a risk of frost,
with external temperatures between 0° C and -10° C, an ac-
cessory must be requested for the protection of the DHW
circuit, comprising a control thermostat and a series of
electric heating elements with relative wiring.
9
An electrical power supply is necessary in order to take advan-
tage of this protection, implemented with electrically powered
heating elements. This means that any blackout or disconnec-
tion will deactivate the protection.
The anti-freeze protection is
also active when the boiler is on standby.
9
The assembly of the antifreeze heater kit must only be carried
out by authorized personnel, following the instructions contained
in the packaging of the kit.
In normal operation conditions, the boiler can protect itself against
freezing.
Outdoor installation in built-in box (fig. 5)
The boiler can also be installed outside in the special built-in box.
In this type of installation, the boiler can operate in a temperature
range from 0°C to 60°C.
For outdoor installation
If the machine is left unpowered for long periods in areas where
temperatures may fall below 0°C, and you do not want to drain the
heating system, you are advised to add a specific, good quality an-
ti-freeze liquid to the primary circuit.
Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions with regards not only
the percentage of anti-freeze liquid to be used for the minimum tem-
perature at which you want to keep the machine circuit, but also the
duration and disposal of the liquid itself.
For the domestic hot water part, we recommend you drain the circuit.
The boiler component materials are resistant to ethylene glycol
based antifreeze liquids.
Specific anti-freeze kits are available for outdoor installations.
Fixing the boiler
The boiler is supplied with a preassembly template which allows
for realising the connections to the heating and domestic hot water
system without the boiler, which may be subsequently assembled,
standing in the way.
Connect the discharge manifold to a suitable discharge system.
START CONDENS Kis
boilers are designed and made to be in-
stalled on heating and domestic hot water production systems.
The position and dimension of hydraulic fittings are shown in the
drawings.
• Position the cardboard template on the wall, with the aid of a spirit
level: check the correct horizontal plane and the planarity of the
boiler rest surface; make it thicker if needed
• Trace the fixing points
• Position the boiler support plate on the wall and fix it with ade-
guate anchors
• Hook the boiler (fig. 6).
