5.4 PATTERN ERASE

The erase lamp unit has another task besides the lead edge erase, trail edge
erase, and side erase which is making the ID sensor pattern, V

R

 pattern, and

V

L

 pattern.

When in the ID sensor pattern detection cycle, the lead edge erase period is
a little longer to make the ID sensor pattern before the original latent image.
The ID sensor pattern is made by turning off the LED blocks X, Y, Z on the
rear side for 133 msec. before making the lead edge erase margin.

When in the V

R

pattern detection cycle, the entire line of the erase lamp

LEDs turn on a little longer than the normal lead edge erase period. The V

R

pattern is made by applying a development bias of 0 V for the erased drum
surface before the original latent image.

When in the V

L

pattern detection cycle, the trail edge erase stays longer than

the normal copy cycle. The exposure lamp turns on at the scanner home
position and the LED blocks A, B, C of the front side turn off for 111 msec. 4
times at 833 msec. intervals. (4 times a 20 X 20 mm V

pattern at 150 mm

intervals)
