3.4.4 System overview MM 500 control and Lauda Microcool MC 1200
The diagram shown below illustrates the internal fluid circuit when a chiller is connected. It
shows the system boundaries of the MM 500 control (left side) and the chiller (right side). The
chiller has two hydraulic connections: Flow and Return. The MM 500 control has four
connections: Flow and return for the right and left thermal plate respectively (INPUT LEFT,
INPUT RIGHT, OUTPUT LEFT, OUTPUT RIGHT). Both devices are connected by an optional
hose set (Art. No. 02.707.0188).
The temperature control liquid for the MM 500 control is provided by the chiller. The chiller has
an internal pump which builds up the delivery pressure and moves the temperature control
medium through the heat exchanger and the liquid lines. The temperature control medium
leaves the chiller at the flow connection. The volume flow is divided by Y-connectors and
directed to the two thermal plates of the MM 500 control. The rotary transmissions enable the
transport of the temperature control medium to the thermal plates in the vibrating grinding jar
supports. The cooling capacity or heating capacity of the temperature control medium is
transferred on the thermal plates to the individual thermal plates. The grinding jar is thereby
indirectly cooled or heated from underneath. The temperature of the thermal plates is detected
by a temperature sensor installed in each of the left and right thermal plates. After the
temperature control medium has passed the thermal plates, it flows through the rotary
transmission to the device outlet and returns to the chiller. The previously divided volume flow is
recombined by Y-connectors. The temperature control medium is cooled down or heated up
again in the chiller.
