The charging process has three steps:
Formatting charge
If the battery is totally discharged, it is charged at first with a low-current formatting charge in order to prevent
damage to the battery. The formatting charge is not indicated to the operator. Depending on the status of the
battery, the formatting process can take about 1 to 5 minutes.
Fast Charge
As soon as the battery voltage has exceeded the operating voltage of the printer, the printer will start a fast
charge. This is signalled through a slow flashing STATUS LED and a message through the interface.
If batteries are empty it takes about 4 hours to recharge them completely
Trickle Charge
If batteries are charged fully the charging circuit will change to the trickle charge mode to keep batteries fully
charged. In this mode, batteries are charged permanent with the low formatting current. In addition, fast charge is
activated every 8 minutes for 20 seconds. This is shown to the operator by switching the STATUS LED for this
time permanent on.
The REA TD-GPT-U printer meets the USB specification V1.1 for full-speed devices. The printer is compatible to
USB V2.0 bus systems.
Operation
If a sleep mode has been enabled, the printer will switch to sleep mode after the preset time has been passed.
The USB interface remains active and is directly powered by the USB master. A new print job reactivates the
printer without any loss of data. In USB suspend mode the printer internal USB interface is also disabled. In this
mode, the printer will "go to sleep" after the preset sleep time.
