Chapter 1: General information

1.1 Introduction

This manual provides commissioning and other setup information for ST70+ displays
and associated keypad controllers. It is also intended for users who want to more fully
understand the concepts of ST70+ and want to get the most out of their product.

For day-to-day use of ST70+, refer to the

ST70+ Operating Guide

.

1.2 Product basics

An ST70+ system comprises one or more displays controlled by one or more
keypads. During initial setup, an ST70+ display is set up to function as either an
Instrument or a Pilot Controller. The initial setup is part of the commissioning
procedure (see

Chapter 2:, Commissioning Procedures

).

Concept

ST70+ displays are controlled by remote keypads, as follows:
•

Instrument keypads control displays set up as Instruments.

•

One type of Pilot Controller keypad is used on sail boats to control displays set up
as Pilot Controllers.

•

Another type of Pilot Controller keypad is used on power boats to control displays
set up as Pilot Controllers.

In any ST70+ system, displays and keypads can be configured in convenient groups.
For example, a system could comprise three Instrument groups (chart table, helm
and mast), plus two Pilot Controller groups (port helm and starboard helm).

A display or display group can be controlled only by a keypad of the appropriate type.

Keypad controls & control functions

All ST70+ setup and operating functions are controlled by the keypad buttons. All
keypads have:
•

Power button

. Switches power on and off.

•

Select Display button

. Used in systems with more than one display, to select

the display you want to control or set up. One press highlights the currently
selected display. If you press Select Display again while the currently selected dis-
play is highlighted (i.e. within 6 seconds), this selects the next display in the sys-
tem or group. Repeating this action enables you to select each display in turn.

•

CANCEL

button. Used during setup procedures to leave a setup function without

making any changes.
