1.4.8 Switcher Cascading
In some cases, the eight channels provided by a R&S UPZ are not sufficient. Several
switchers can be cascaded to extend the number of channels. With the special
configuration of the RS-232-C interface of the R&S UPZ, it is possible to control up to
16 switcher addresses, although they were originally designed for only one connection
between two instruments. Up to 128 channels are thus available.
The controlling connections between the different R&S UPZ are established by means
of 9-contact extension cables (
no
null modem cables). Since the two trapezoidal
connectors are internally wired in a different way, a R&S UPZ is always fitted with a
socket and a plug. The connectors of the individual R&S UPZ are thus clearly defined
which prevents wrong connection.
The D-sub male connector is the output for the next R&S UPZ and the D-sub female
connector is the input for the preceding one. The first R&S UPZ in the series is thus
connected to the Audio Analyzer via the female connector and the RS232 extension
cable or an USB cable.
