Preliminary Steps
Before powering up the media adapter for the first time, turn on your TV or projector
and set it for the input the media adapter is connected to (SCART, composite video,
S-Video, or component video). This is usually done through the TV or projector’s
remote control. The exact procedure depends on the make and model of the unit.
Some companies use different names for these inputs. Some of the names you might
see on your TV or projector’s housing and screen are —
Composite video:
Video, AV, A/V, CVBS, VBS, CVS, FBAS, BAS, Baseband
S-Video:
Super Video, S-VHS, Y/C
Component video:
YP
B
P
R
, YC
B
C
R
, YUV, Y/B-Y/R-Y, ColorStream, EIA-770
After setting your TV or projector for the correct input, keep its remote control nearby
in case further adjustments are necessary.
Initial Power-up
Before powering up the media adapter for the first time, you should turn on and
adjust your TV or projector as described above. After everything is set up, the
devices can be powered up in any order.
To power up the media adapter,
set the power switch on its back panel to
the “1” (on) position.
Do not press the remote control’s
Power
button — pressing it will put the
media adapter in standby mode, and you will have to press it again.
The media adapter’s power indicator will flash a few times and then shine steadily.
The Ethernet activity indicator may start flashing shortly after that. Within about 30
seconds of being turned on, the media adapter will output first its home screen
(below) and then the setup wizard’s opening screen.
If these screens fail to appear or the picture is unsatisfactory, this may be entirely
normal and easily fixed. See the section below, and if the problem persists, see the
last section of this chapter.
