4. Clamp a block of wood across the infeed
table so that the end of a sharpening stone
may be placed against the block during
jointing operation (Fig. 33). This will help
prevent kickback of the stone.
5. Re-connect power and turn machine on.
Keep hands clear of turning cutterhead.
6. Place a fine oilstone over the cutterhead
with ends resting on infeed and outfeed
tables. (You may want to wrap paper around
part of the stone to prevent scratching the
table.) Slide the oil stone back and forth
across the knives until knives are jointed
lightly. Turn the machine off and visually
inspect each knife. If only the high knife has
been touched, lower the outfeed table .003
inches and continue the sharpening process
until every knife has been touched by the
stone.
7. When finished, reset the knives parallel to
the outfeed table.
If the knives are too worn or nicked to be properly
whetted according to these instructions, they must
be ground and re-surfaced to a new bevel. Check
in your local phone directory under tool grinding/
sharpening services. It may be less expensive to
purchase a new set of blades. If the jointer is used
frequently, keeping a spare set of blades on hand
is recommended.
CUTTERHEAD REPAIRS
The entire cutterhead assembly may be removed
for bearing replacement or other maintenance
procedures.
To remove the cutterhead:
1.
Disconnect jointer from power source.
2. Remove fence assembly from jointer (see
page 12 – Fig. 12a).
3. Loosen motor mounting and push up on
motor to create slack in belt (see page 10)
4.
Remove drive belt from cutterhead pulley.
5.
Lower both infeed and outfeed tables.
6.
Loosen the two socket head cap screws on
the fence support and pivot the fence
support out of the way (Fig. 34).
