Before going on a trip . . .
In the drivers s e a t . . .
On the highway . ..
1 - Be sure tires are inflated correctly. Look
for bruises and tire wear.
2 - See that wheel bolts or nuts are not
loose or missing.
3 - Check engine oil level, add if neces-
sary. M a k e it a habit to have engine oil
checked with every second fuel filling.
4 - Check coolant level to assure sufficient
engine c o o l i n g .
5 - Be sure you have a well charged bat-
tery. Each cell should be filled to level
w i t h distilled water.
6 - Check brake f l u i d level. If too low, have
brake system checked.
7 - Replenish windshield washer fluid.
8 - Replace w o r n or cracked wiper blades.
9 - See that all w i n d o w s are clear and un-
obstructed.
1 0 - C h e c k whether headlight and tail light
lenses are c l e a n .
11 - Check under car for leaks.
1 2 - Be sure all lights are w o r k i n g and head-
lights are aimed correctly.
1 - Depress plate in center of steering wheel
to check whether horn is w o r k i n g .
2 - Position seat for easy reach of c o n t r o l s .
3 - Adjust inside and outside rear view mir-
rors.
4 - Use safety belts.
5 - Check operation of foot and parking
brakes.
6 - Check all warning und indicator lights
when starting the engine.
7 - DO NOT leave car idling unattended.
8 - Lock doors from inside, especially w i t h
children in the car.
Have the engine oil, the coolant level and the
ATF (in cars w i t h automatic transmission)
checked regularly, even inbetween the re-
commended maintenance intervals.
1 - Always drive defensively. Expect the un-
e x p e c t e d .
2 - Use signals to indicate turns and lane
changes.
3 - Turn on headlights at dusk.
4 - A l w a y s keep a safe distance from the car
in front of you, depending on traffic, road
and weather conditions.
5 - Reduce speed during night hours and in-
clement weather.
6 - O b s e r v e speed limits and o b e y highway
signs.
7 - W h e n t i r e d , get off the highway, stop
and take a rest. Turn the engine off. DO
NOT sit in the car w i t h engine idling.

8 - W h e n s t o p p e d or parked, always set the
parking brake.
9 - W h e n stalled or stopped f o r repairs,
move the car well off the road. Set the
emergency flasher and use road flares or
other warning devices to warn other mo-
torists.
Turn the engine off before you attempt any
checks or repairs on the car.
