Emergency Towing with Tow Rope
Always observe local laws and municipal
ordinances governing towing.
N o t e : If you are t o w i n g another car, it should
not be heavier than your Porsche (approx.
3350 lbs. or 1520 kg).
The t o w i n g eye is in the tool kit located in
the rear of the car. If you are t o w i n g a car,
mount the t o w i n g eye at the rear of the car
above the license plate (see illustration). If
your car is being t o w e d , remove the plastic
b o d y plug from the right front of the car b e -
f o r e mounting the t o w i n g eye (see illustra-
tion). A l w a y s check to make sure the t o w i n g
eye is securely screwed in.
Manual Transmission
- Place gearshift in N e u t r a l .
- Release parking brake.
- Brake booster w i l l not be operative w h e n
the engine is not running. M o r e brake
pedal pressure will be required to bring car
to a stop.
- Turn ignition key to position 2 to unlock
steering and to be able to operate turn
signals, parking and stop lights.
- The driver of the t o w i n g car must be v e r y
careful when driving off and shifting to
avoid sudden and abrupt j e r k s .
- The driver of the t o w e d car must always
keep the t o w rope taut.
Automatic Transmission
When t o w i n g your car w i t h automatic trans-
mission, also observe the f o l l o w i n g in a d d i -
tion to the items listed under Manual Trans-
mission.
The towing speed should not exceed 30 mph/
50 k m / h , and the t o w i n g distance should not
be longer than 30 miles/50 km. For greater
distances, the vehicle must be transported
on a trailer.
This is v e r y important because the trans-
mission will not be adequately lubricated due
to the lack of oil pressure normally provided
when the engine is running.
Caution! Do not start or tow the car without
ATF in the transmission, as this w i l l result in
serious damage to transmission and t o r q u e
converter.
Emergency push-starting
Your Porsche w i t h automatic transmission
cannot be started by pushing or t o w i n g .
Should the engine fail to start, consult your
nearest Porsche dealer.
Note: The central warning light and all in-
dividual warning lights will be on when your
car is being t o w e d . They can only be turned
off when the engine is started.
