When installing tile or stone, the Tile Council of North America (TCNA)
guidelines, National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA), or ANSI speci
fi
cations
should be followed as a minimum standard.
A polymer-modi
fi
ed thin-set cement-based mortar and grout is
recommended over water-based multi-purpose materials.
Do not use solvent based adhesives or pre-mix mortars as they are not as
heat resistant and do not conduct heat well. Select the proper size trowel for
the installation of tile or stone. We recommend a minimum 3/8” x 1/4” plastic
trowel. This trowel works well for most ceramic tile. A thicker thin-set can be
used if required. Select the thin-set thickness in accordance with the
fl
oor
covering requirements.
When installing
fl
oor coverings other than tile or stone, follow the
manufacturer’s recommendations. Ensure the Warmset mat is
fi
rst covered
with a layer of self-leveling cement-based mortar, allowing it cure fully before
applying any surface underlayment or other
fl
ooring materials.
Self-leveling compounds can be appropriate if installing ceramic or stone
tile, engineered wood, vinyl, laminate, or carpet
fl
oor coverings. Attach the
Warmset mat to the sub
fl
oor or slab, and then pour minimum 3/8” self-levelling
mortar according to manufacturer’s speci
fi
cations. Install
fl
oor covering after
the mortar has cured according to manufacturer’s speci
fi
cations.
The
fl
oor covering must be in direct contact with the mortar or self-leveling
compound that encases the heating mat.
Do not elevate the
fl
oor above the concrete mass below. Air gaps will act as an
insulator and prevents heat from reaching the
fl
ooring.
Ensure no nails, staples, or other penetrative fasteners are used to install
fl
oor coverings. Such fasteners can easily damage Warmset mats and cause
dangerous overheating, electric shock, or
fi
re.
