Multicast Configuration
Multicast (point-to-multipoint) is a communication feature that allows a
source host to send a message to a group of destination hosts. Multicasting
reduces traffic on the local network by sending only one (multicast) packet
out to a higher-bandwidth relay point.
Multicasting differs from broadcasting in that a receiver must join a multicast
group to receive group messages. Each multicast group has its own group
address, which is a Class D IP address—224.0.0.0—239.255.255.255.
