Chapter 4 Failure & Repair Analysis

RAP 02: Space Operation Does Not Operate Normally

START

Is the carriage assembly movement erratic or is the carriage jammed?

YES Check around the carriage assembly, space belt, space motor, and space rack for any obstructions,
or mechanical problems.

Check ribbon drive mechanism for smooth operation.

NO Are +5V and +35V on the control board?

Refer to Appendix A of this Service Handbook.

NO Go to RAP 01, Item A

YES Is the connector CN8 on the control board connected properly?

NO Connect it properly.

YES Replace the control board.

Is condition corrected?

YES End of procedure.

NO Replace the space motor.

End of procedure.
