Chapter 14 - Service and Maintenance Functions

Why save and restore? One, you may want to keep separate
sets of waypoints and routes for different cruising areas so you
don’t have to sort through one large database of waypoints
and routes to select the ones you want (even though the
search function is always quick and easy). Two, if you ever
have to return the 961/962 to the factory for service, it’s a
good idea to have a separate copy of your system’s waypoints,
routes, and user preferences from the hard drive, since it’s
possible that this information may be lost during repair.
A blank, properly formatted floppy disk always has enough
space to store your backed-up databases (a zip disk also has
enough space). If you receive the message “Unable to copy
data to the removable disk,” check if the disk is
write-protected: To change the write-protection status of a
floppy disk, use the tip of a pen to switch the position of the
small square on the outer corner of the disk.
NOTE:
The save and restore function isn’t designed to be used for your
tracks, charts, or the trip. This data can’t be saved to either type of
disk as described above.
Saving a database
To save the waypoint and route or user preference databases
to a disk:
1. Press the
STAR
key until you reach the
SERVICE MENU
screen, then press the
DATABASES AND LOG
key.
The
DATABASE FUNCTION
screen appears.
CAUTION!
Restoring a database will OVERWRITE your
existing database. Be sure this is what you want to
do before you proceed.
