External Alarms (from NAVIGAT Compasses)
Acknowledging External Alarms at NAVITWIN IV
External alarms are the alarms transmitted by a NAVIGAT X MK 1 or
NAVIGAT X MK 2 gyrocompass, or by a NAVIGAT 2100 or a
NAVIGAT 3000 fiber-optical gyrocompass.
These external alarms are displayed and may be acknowledged at the
NAVITWIN IV. Generally, for an external alarm,
two lines of text
are
indicated in the NAVITWIN IV alarm window:
• The first line is the alarm message received.
• The second line indicates the name of the source, which transmitted
the alarm message.

The source name will be the selected “COMPASS NAME” in the
“Service Setup Menu”, as described on page 7-7.
Depending on whether the CAM is active or inactive (respectively not
present), the alarm window indication of the external alarm is handled
differently:
• When CAM is ACTIVE: Once acknowledged, external alarms are still
longer shown at the NAVITWIN IV alarm window, as long as the
alarm condition persists.
• When CAM is INACTIVE, acknowledged external alarms are cleared
and are NOT longer shown at the NAVITWIN IV alarm window, even
when the alarm condition persists.

To determine whether an acknowledged external alarm is still active,
the error list must be checked locally at the respective compass.
CAUTION Risk of erroneous operating conditions through inaccurate error alarm
recovering
When acknowledging an external alarm from a NAVIGAT 2100 /
NAVIGAT 3000, make sure that the FOG fully recovers from the error.
Upon alarm acknowledge, the NAVIGAT 2100 / NAVIGAT 3000 executes
the command which corresponds to confirming the alarm message, i.e.
pressing the
F1
key, at the compass.
In certain cases, it may be necessary to take further action to return the
NAVIGAT 2100 / NAVIGAT 3000 to normal operation, e.g. it might be
required to change the speed or position data source or to execute a new
align (restart) of the system.
Note When CAM is ACTIVE and more than one active external alarm from a
connected gyrocompass is present at one time, these alarms are listed in
the gyrocompass alarm list and stay listed completely, as long as at least
one alarm condition persists. The alarm list is only cleared, when the last
alarm condition has disappeared.
