Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration
NOTE: Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Option is only available on CAT C3.4 Tier IVi engine.
Regeneration is the process of removing the accumulated soot from the diesel particulate filter (DPF). This is
done by actively introducing very high heat into the exhaust system. When regeneration is activated exhaust
gas temperatures are raised for the purpose of regeneration and the low idle of the engine adjusts to a
minimum of 950 rpm.
Regeneration Inhibit Option - This option allows the
operator to inhibit automatic regeneration of the DPF giving
the operator control of the regeneration elements of exhaust
gas temperature and low idle speed. This allows the machine
to operate as normal under circumstances where changes in
these elements would be of concern. To activate Regeneration
Inhibit Option, press control key, 1, from View Engine
Diagnostics 2 Screen
Using this option allows the operator to ensure the engine will
not raise exhaust gas temperatures for the purpose of
regeneration.
This action will reset on ignition key cycle, or once the engine is restarted.
Regeneration Force Option - This option allows the operator
to perform a forced (manual) regeneration of the DPF.
Activating Regeneration Force Option does not force
regeneration on command, the ECU maintains control and
activates regeneration at next available opportunity. To
activate Regeneration Force Option, press control key, 2, from
View Engine Diagnostics 2 Screen.
Using this option allows the operator to force a regeneration.
When the machine is in a safe state, the engine adjusts it’s
operating mode to oxidize the soot in the particulate filter.
