Specific gravity varies slightly with temperature. To be

exact, specific gravity decreases by 0.0007 with a 1°C in

crease (0.0004 with a 1°F increase) in temperature, and

increases by 0.0007 with a 1°C decrease (0.0004 with a

1°F decrease).

Therefore, using 20 °C (68 °F) as a reference, the specific

gravity reading must be corrected by the following for-

mula:

Specific gravity at 20 °C = Measured value + 0.0007 ×

(electrolyte temperature - 20 °C).

Specific gravity at 68 °F = Measured value + 0.0004 ×

(electrolyte temperature - 68 °F).
