Filling coolant using a pump
1.
Connect appropriate pump with hose to drain
valve (1).
2.
Loosen the vent line union at the distributor
piece (arrow).
3.
Open drain valve and pump coolant into en-
gine at 0.5 bar minimum.
4.
Tighten union (arrowed) if coolant leaks out
at loose union.
5.
Fill expansion tank until coolant level reaches
overflow edge.
6.
Close drain valve and tighten to specified torque using a torque wrench.

Check satisfactory condition of valve cover and clean sealing faces if required.

Position valve cover on filler neck and close.

After 10 seconds of running the engine without load, shut down the engine (→ Page 143).

Turn valve cover on coolant expansion tank counterclockwise to first stop and release pressure.
12.
Continue to turn valve cover counterclockwise and remove.
13.
Check coolant level (→ Page 265) and top up coolant as required:
a) Fill in coolant in expansion tank until the coolant level at top edge of filler neck remains constant.
b) Position valve cover on filler neck and close.
14.
Repeat the steps from “Start engine” (→ Step 9) until coolant no longer needs to be topped up.
15.
Disconnect pump and hose.
