After driving for a short distance (around 50-100 metres), stop the vehicle to check that the chains are still correctly fitted
to the tyres. If the chain is too loose, add an additional tensioner.
Also check the tension of the “spider”
Single rims:
repeat step 3. If the spider is not positioned correctly (picture 3b), repeat step 2d.
Twin rims:
move the hooks one notch towards the centre and repeat step 3. If the spider is not positioned correctly
(picture 3b), repeat step 2d.
Installation complete... You can now drive in safety. Max speed 50km/h.
Warning: Before leaving the vehicle parked for a long time be sure to remove the chains such that they do not freeze to
the wheels, which will make removing them difficult.
AUTOMATIC FITTING :
The next time the chains are used on the same tyres, it will not be necessary to adjust the tension; the chain will
fit itself automatically to the wheel once in use. You may skip from assembly step
2
to step
4
.
FITTING
WARNING
Twin rims :
remove the short hooks and replace with the
longer hooks
(See step 2 for the hook removal procedure)
Single rims:
after taking the chain out of its case, check that the tension handle is duly in the “OPEN” position.
Twin rims:
after taking the chain out of its case, check that the tension handle is duly in the “CLOSED” position.
Place the chain on the wheel as indicated, pressing it as tightly as possible against the side of the wheel.
Then adjust the "spider" attachment by inserting the hooks into the holes of the wheel rim.
To fit the hooks to the spider, proceed as follows :
a. insert the pre-mounted hook into one of the holes in the wheel-rim and pull on the opposite arm to
widen the notches.
b. insert the hook into the 1st notch (the furthest from the centre of the attachment piece) inserting it
perpendicularly to the arm.
c. turn 90° to locate and insert into one of the holes in the wheel-rim.
Repeat for each arm.
d. move the hooks notch by notch and test each setting until the "spider" is suitably tight.
Check that the attachment piece is correctly fitted to the wheel-rim :
OK
: The "spider" is correctly fitted to the wheel-rim if each of the arms is tight and all of the hooks are correctly
fitted into the holes in the wheel-rim (see Figure 3a).
Caution: the hooks should be located identically for each branch such that the attachment piece is well
centred.
NO : The "Spider" is incorrectly located on the wheel-rim if the arms are loose
(see Figure 3b).
Single rims:
flip the tension handle into the “LOCKED” position.
Twin rims:
go to step 5
Carefully move the vehicle forward by a half-wheel turn (the tyres must not slip during this).
Finish locating the road-contact surface around and at the top of the wheel.
WARNING: For best results, certain tyre sizes may require adjustment to the circumference of the
chains. This can be done by adding tensioners if the chain is too loose (if you can pass your hand
between the tyre and the road-contact surface). The chain should be removed before doing this.
