Ice maker thermopile
temperature sensor
(center hole)
When checking the detected temperature,
attach vinyl tape over the temperature sensor
so that the center hole is completely hidden.
*Viewed from the bottom with the ice tray removed.
1. Diagnostic procedure <Outline>
• In the “Thermistor check mode”, check the following: Response and Detected
temperature.
Response check: Make sure that the detected temperature changes by placing
your hand under the sensor.
Detected temperature check: Put the vinyl tape on the aperture of the
thermopile, and check the detected temperature.
Accuracy of the temperature detected by the thermopile
• Since there is considerable individual variation in the temperature detected by the
thermopile, the tolerance of the absolute temperature is relatively large.
If no problem is found by the check , it is generally regarded as normal.
If the check results in normal, it can be regarded as normal even if the
detected temperature, found by the check , is slightly out of the normal range.
2. Diagnosis
1) Response check
(1)
Procedure
Step 1: Start the “Thermistor check mode”.
Step 2: Open the ice making compartment door and remove the ice tray.
Step 3: Check that the detected temperature changes by placing your hand
under
the
thermopile.
(2) Failure diagnosis
• If the temperature does not rise 2 to 3 or more when your hand is
introduced, the thermopile is broken.
(However, if the inside of refrigerator is not cool enough, the temperature
change cannot be observed.)
2) Procedure for Detected temperature check
(1)
Procedure
Step 1: Open the ice making compartment door and remove the ice tray.
Step 2: Cover the temperature sensor on the thermopile with vinyl tape.
Step 3: Wait for about five minutes until the temperature of the ice making
compartment
becomes
stable.
Step 4: Start the “Thermistor check mode”.
Step 5: Check the temperatures of the ice making thermistor and the ice
maker
thermopile.
(2) Failure diagnosis
• If the temperature detected by the thermopile is roughly in the range of
−
5 to + 5 against the temperature of the versa com-
partment thermistor, which is listed in the temperature control chart ("ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS" of "2. SPECIFICATIONS"),
it is normal.

Temperature detected by the thermopile
It is normal if the detected temperature is in
the range of +5 to
−
5 against the temper-
ature of the versa compartment thermistor.
5-8.3 Ice maker thermopile (ice maker sensor)
The ice maker thermopile is
fi
xed on the
ice maker with tape.
