(6) Troubleshooting for automatic ice maker
*First, make sure that
is not lit.
T
rouble with ice making.
The ice tray is set.
The ice tray lock lever is locked.
The "
" indicator is not lit on the control panel.
W
ater or ice exists in the ice tray
.
There is a possibility of a failure on the ice making gear box, deficiency in cooling performance, an error in the detection of
water supply, or detection of full ice level in the ice storage box.
The ice does not come out from the tray
1. Check inside of the ice storage box.
• Ice cubes are not stored flatly and
the amount is detected as full.
• Something like food is inside the
ice storage box
Check and correct the
problem.
2. Check the detected temperature and the voltage
of the ice making compartment thermopile.
• Refer to Failure diagnosis for
the thermopile.
Replace the ice maker ther-
mopile.
3. Check whether the temperature of the
freezer compartment is cool enough.
Extra time is required to make ice in summer or
when the door is opened or closed frequently.
• Not enough
Poor cooling
4. Check whether the ice tray is set correctly.
(Make sure it rotates during ice making
test.)
• The ice tray is not properly engaged.
(E.g. The ice tray or the handle installed
upside down. They are not installed squarely.)
Check and correct the
problem.
5. Check whether " " on the operation panel is
blinking.
• Blinking
The door is open when ice is
making.
Check whether the door
is open/close.
Check the door switch.
No water or ice in the ice tray
Water supply path may have a failure, the ice tray may have a crack or not be set in place, or the presence of
the ice tray may not be properly detected.

6. Check the water pipe for dirt and foreign
objects.
• Clogging
• Freezing (For freezing, check
installation and measure the
resistance of water pipe heater.)
Clean the water pipe.
Deice
Check connection of
water pipe heater.
No waterdrops in water saucer
7. Disassemble the water pump and check the
inside of the pipe.
• Dirt or foreign objects
Repair and explain to the
user for proper usage.
8. Tank pipe is clogged, has a hole, or is not
properly installed.
• Clogging, disconnecting
• Hole or crack
Clean/Reinstall it properly.
Change the tank pipe.
9. Check water in the water tank.
• Freezing
(Check the tank packing, the tank
pipe, and the water pump for proper
installation. If they are properly
installed, check the water pipe
heater for proper installation, and
measure the resistance of them.
Check and correct the
problem.
10. Check installation of the water tank.
• The water tank is raised by foreign
objects or food items.
(Foreign objects caught under the
water tank may prevent the water
tank from functioning.)
Check and correct the
problem.
11. Check the coil resistance of the water sup-
ply pump motor.
• Open or short circuit
Replace the water supply pump.
12. Check if there are any dirt or foreign
objects which are difficult to remove in the
water tank. Also, check if there is any crack
or deformation on the tank.
• Crack or deformation
Replace the water tank.
The "
"
indicator is lit on
the control panel.
13. Check the resistance of the ice tray
detection reed switch.
• Open circuit (
)
Replace the reed switch
assembly.
14. Check the presence of a magnet in the ice
tray lock lever and its magnetic force.
• NG (no magnet or weak mag-
netic force)
Replace the ice tray
lock lever.
The ice tray lock lever is not set.
15. Check whether the ice lock lever is set in place.
Check and correct the problem.
The ice tray is not set.
16. Check whether the ice tray is set.
Install the ice tray.
Extra time is taken to make ice.
(The amount of ice is few in the ice
storage box.)
17. Is the ice making compartment cooled
sufficiently?
Extra time is required to make ice in summer or
when the door is opened or closed frequently.
• Not cooled sufficiently.
Poor cooling
18. Visually check the rotating direction of the
water supply pump.
(Install only the water supply pump and the
impeller on the water tank, and conduct the ice
making test to check the water supply pump
and the impeller rotate counter clock wise.)
* To conduct the ice making test, touch
for 5
seconds.
• NG
Remove the water tank
holder and reverse the
pin polarities in the wire-
to-wire connector that
connects to the pump
motor.
* Refer to page 39.
19. Check the amount of ice in ice storage box. • The ice box is covered with ice,
especially at the middle.
The ice is full. Even out
the ice.
Water in the tank holder
20. Check the water supply pipe for dirt and
foreign objects. Also, check the water sup-
ply pipe position and connection.
• Clogging, disconnecting
• Hole or crack
Clean/Reinstall it properly.
Replace the water sup-
ply pipe.
Chained ice, water leaking
from the ice server
The ice tray is set.
The ice tray lock lever is locked.
21. Check whether the ice tray is properly set.
• Cracked
• The ice tray is coming off or not set
in place.
Replace the ice tray.
Reset the ice tray in place.
22. Perform the ice making test and check the
operation of the water supply pump.
• Water filling period is longer than
10 seconds.
Replace the control
board.
23. Water spill at the installation of water tank or too much water over the full water level may cause formation of chained ice.
24. When the grooves are clogged on the water tank, chained ice may form.
Clean/Reinstall it properly
(Check the connection where the tank pipe connects to the water tank.)
25. When the refrigerator tilts in a large angle, chained ice may form.
Check and correct the
problem.
26. Measure the resistance of the water supply pump motor. • Open or short circuit
Change the water supply pump motor.
The ice tray lock lever is not locked.
27. Check the resistance of the ice tray
detection reed switch.
• Open circuit (
)
Replace the reed switch
assembly.
The ice tray is not set.
