STUD Mode

In Stud mode, the Sub-Scanner will detect wood or

metal studs and joists behind wall board, wooden

panels, plaster or other non-metallic wall materials.

The Sub-Scanner can not reliably detect studs

behind material of varying densities. Materials

such as carpet, wire metal mesh backing, damp

walls, and stucco may affect readings. Alternating

surfaces, such as thick grout lines or extremely

heavy plaster on drywall, may be detected or show

as metal or studs.

1.Turn on the Sub-Scanner.

2.Select Stud mode.

3.Depth of scan is

defaulted to 0.5"

(standard wallboard

t h i c k n e s s ) .   To

change the depth

of scan (0.5", 1",

or 1.5"), press the

STUD button.

 4.Hold the Sub-

Scanner

against

the surface and

press the Calibrate

button.

NOTE:

 The Sub-

Scanner will  not

calibrate correctly over studs. To

fi

 nd a location

without studs, locate an outlet box and move the

Sub-Scanner 6" to either side before beginning

calibration.

5.When SCANNING

is displayed, move

the Sub-Scanner

across the surface.

Keep your free

hand and other

objects at least 6”

(152 mm) away to

avoid false readings.

NOTE:

The Sub-Scanner must remain

fl

 at against

and in contact with the surface during the entire

scan.

6.When a stud is de-

tected, the edge is

displayed. Contin-

ue moving the Sub-

Scanner to detect

the entire stud.

7.When the center

of the stud is de-

tected, both arrows

are displayed.

 NOTE:

If electric

wires or metal/

pipes are in contact

with the backside of

the wallboard, they

may be identi

fi

 ed as

a stud.
