Protection against restarting
Use the "Work in progress" sign or follow the operator's instructions. A single sign on the current workstation
is not enough, as many systems can be controlled from other locations. If possible, lock the position of the
switches and switch off components and disconnectors.
Conduct in case of danger
Separate the vacuum pump from the mains.
CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION
Short description
ANTIGUA pumps are liquid ring vacuum pumps used for the delivery and compression of gases. The main
application fields are the medical, plastics and food industries.

Operation
The ANTIGUA is a single level liquid ring vacuum pump. The hydraulic unit and motor are assembled as one
unit. The mechanical seal provides the seal between the working area and the motor.
On the vacuum pump, the components are divided as follows according to their function:
• Hydraulic unit: Vacuum housing, central body, impeller
• Drive: Motor
• Seal: static seal (e.g.
housing seal) and dynamic seal (e.g. shaft seal).

The eccentric impeller is in the cylindrical working area. When the pump is put into operation, the operating
fluid contained therein forms a concentric liquid ring in the working space by centrifugal force, which seals
the impeller chambers and acts as a piston. The conveyed product is sucked in at the inlet into the impeller
cells and discharged at the outlet in compressed form. The generated heat during compression is absorbed
by the operating fluid.
By ensuring a sufficient operating fluid in all operating states of the liquid ring vacuum pump, ignition sources
in the working area are avoided and explosion protection is guaranteed.

The vacuum pump has two grease lubricated roller bearings on the drive side (motor bearing).

The shaft seal seals the vacuum pump process space from the environment.
A single-acting, fluid-lubricated mechanical seal is used.
The mechanical seal is internally flushed with operating fluid to lubricate the sliding surfaces, protect them
from contamination and dissipate heat due to friction.
Cavitation protection
Cavitation occurs when the conveyed product mainly contains steam which condenses during compression.
Over time, cavitation damages the material and causes the vacuum pump failure.
Cavitation protection by supplying a non-condensing gas is necessary in the following cases:
• Commissioning of the vacuum pump
• Vacuum pump operation with a suction pressure approaching
the vapour pressure of the operating fluid.
If a vacuum pump and a gas ejector are combined, no cavitation protection is required.
