Sources of danger
Electrical energy
Electrical energy can cause serious injury or death. It is often the cause of property damage, especially fires.
Before working on electrical equipment, the following safety measures must be observed:
•
Wear insulated shoes with thick rubber soles.
•
Disconnect the power supply system.
•
Protect the system from being switched on again.
•
Use a suitable measuring instrument to check that the system has been disconnected from the electricity
network. Observe a discharge time of five seconds for capacitors.
•
Cover nearby equipment under power and install a warning sign.
After a repair or other work, make sure that everything has been connected to earth. Damaged grounding
can result in serious personal injury and property damage.
Mechanical energy
Mechanical energy can result in personal injury and property damage. Mechanical risks can be divided into
several categories during installation and maintenance.
Heavy loads
Do not lift or move heavy loads by hand but use approved technical devices.
Rotating and moving parts
Rotating and moving components can cause injury during installation and maintenance.
Transport of flammable mixtures
General
Operate the vacuum pump in order that the ignition temperature cannot be reached inside, including the
sealing space and auxiliary systems, in any operating state. Provide monitoring measures if necessary.
Use and installation conditions.
When using media that can cause an explosive atmosphere according to ATEX category 2, ensure that there
is sufficient operating fluid in the vacuum pump for all operating conditions to avoid ignition sources on the
operator side.
Other dangers
Irritating and toxic substances
Fluids and operating equipment may cause skin, eye, and respiratory tract irritation
.
Gas accumulations
Fluids and operating equipment can cause asphyxiation
.
Hot / cold components
Motors, vacuum pumps, fluids and operating equipment can become hot or cold during operation and cause
burns if touched.
Sharp corners and edges
Sharp corners and edges can cause tripping, falling or pinching, as well as injury
.
Operator's liability
The operator is the person using the vacuum pump himself or entrusting this use to a third party, but during
operation he is responsible for the protection of the user, personnel or third parties
.
The operator is responsible for the following tasks
:
•
Implementation of the applicable occupational safety regulations,
•
Drawing up an analysis of dangerous phenomena for the conditions on the site of use,
•
Drawing up working instructions for the operation of the vacuum pump,
•
Updating of the work instructions in accordance with current regulations,
•
Search for qualified personnel for the activity concerned,
•
Regular staff training,
•
Introduction to the dangers at the workplace,
•
Provision of the required personal protective equipment
Personnel qualification
It is the responsibility of the operator to employ qualified personnel for the activity concerned. Qualified
personnel for the installation, operation and maintenance of the vacuum pump are characterised by the
following:
• Adequate
qualification for the activity
• Knowledge of the current instruction manual
• Knowledge of the current provisions for operational safety
• Knowledge of available emergency equipment
Electronic technician
Low-voltage electronics technician with standard tools for connecting electric motors and determining the
electric rotating field.
Adjuster-mechanic
Specialised personnel for the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of machine and installation parts
with standard tools.
Specialised personnel for transport
Trained in the operation of forklifts and cranes depending on the application.
Specialised personnel for packaging
Experience in packaging machines for safe transport.
Protective equipment
Observe the applicable regulations. Wear work clothes such as safety shoes.
Use the equipment indicated in the hazard statements.
Personal protective equipment
• Protective glasses
• Protective gloves
• Protective clothing
Safety devices
Secure the vacuum pump on the operator's side with overcurrent protection and mains cut-off devices.
