6.6 TRANSFER TO AND FROM THE
WHEELCHAIR
Techniques for transferring to / from the
wheelchair should be practiced well with the
persons involved.
Some important advices for preparation of the
chair:
•
The wheelchair should be placed as close as
possible to the destination of the transfer.
•
Make sure the brakes of the wheelchair are
activated to prevent it rolling away.
•
Remove the leg support and swing away the
arm support on the side of the transfer.
6.7 USING A PATIENT HOIST
:
•
Make sure the brakes of the wheelchair are
activated to prevent it rolling away.
•
Tilt the chair slightly backwards
•
Remove the leg support
•
Open the back support angle slightly while
holding the user and adjusting the hoist
behind the users back.
•
Option: Swing away the arm supports to get
closer to the patient and / or remove the head
support.
•
Replace the components when the transfer is
finished.
