T o w -s ta rtin g and Tow ing th e V ehicle
The fro n t tow ing eye is located on the

RH side behind a flap and the rear
tow ing eye on the RH side below the
bumper.
Only to w -sta rt vehicle w ith the battery
cables connected and the key in
steering lock position 2.
Warning!
When the engine is not running, the
brakes and the steering are without
power assistance. Under these cir­
cumstances, a much greater effort is
necessary to steer or stop the vehi­
cle.
Tow-starting a Vehicle
Shift se le cto r lever to position “ N” .
Turn key to steering lock position 2
and have vehicle towed.
A fte r attaining a tow ing speed of
30 km /h (18 mph) (with cold trans­
mission) or 50 km /h (30 mph) (with
warm transm ission), sh ift selector
lever to position “ 2 ” to to w -s ta rt the
engine. Touch the accelerator only
when the engine starts firing. As soon
as the engine has started, immedia­
tely return se le cto r lever to “ N” .
It is im portant to allow the engine to
idle fo r at least 1 minute before s ta rt­
ing off because the preglowing p ro ­
cess starts when the key is in steer­
ing lock position 2 and is not
immediately disrupted after the
engine has been tow -started. During
this time the preglow process is cut
out automatically.
If the engine has not fired after a few
seconds, shift the se le cto r lever to
“ N” to p ro te c t the transm ission from
damage.
For a new starting attem pt, to w -sta rt
the vehicle fo r som e tim e again with
the se le cto r lever in position “ N” and
repeat the starting procedure.
Towing a Vehicle
The vehicle may be tow ed with all
wheels on the ground and the selec­
to r lever in position “ N” fo r distances
up to 120 km (75 miles) and at a
speed not to exceed 50 km /h
(30 mph).
To positively avoid a possibility of
damage to the transm ission, how ­
ever, we recom m end to disconnect
the drive shaft at the rear axle drive
flange on any tow ing beyond a short
to w to a nearby garage.
