Windshield Wipers
Jump Starting
In o rder to renew or release frozen
windshield w iper blades, the w in d ­
shield w iper arms can be pulled out of
th e ir recess by hand. S ufficient force
m ust be applied to overcom e spring
resistance.
In o rder to ensure operation of the
w indshield w iper even when it is
snowing heavily, an overload p ro te c ­
tion has been installed. It becom es
effective if a certain w iping resistance
is exceeded as a result of snow
accumulation. The w indshield w iper
arm will then no longer return
com pletely to its initial position,
although the windshield w iper m otor
continues to run a full cycle. If this
condition is encountered, the accu­
mulated snow should be manually
rem oved when it is safe to do so.
If the battery is discharged, the
engine can be started with jum per
cables (minimum cable cross section
is 35 mm2) and the (12V) battery of
another vehicle. Proceed as fo llo w s :
1. Turn key to steering lock position
“ 0 ” .
2. First connect jum per cables to the
positive battery term inals and then
to the negative terminals.
3. S tart and run engine of jum per
vehicle at high idle.
4. S tart engine of disabled vehicle in
the usual manner.
5. A fter the engine has started, firs t
remove jum per cables from the
negative battery term inals and
then from the positive terminals.
Instructions:
A discharged battery can freeze at
approx. - 10° C /4- 14° F. In all cases
it m ust be thawed out before jum per
cables are used.
Never lean over batteries while jum p
starting.
Warning
Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do
not allow this fluid to com e in contact
w ith eyes, skin, or clothing. In case it
does, immediately flush affected area
w ith water.
A battery will also produce hydrogen
gas, w hich is flammable and explo­
sive. Keep flames o r sparks away
from battery, i.e. im proper connection
o f jum per cables, cigarette smoking,
etc.
