MERCEDES-BENZ  M aintenance System

A maintenance booklet is delivered 
with your car listing all the mainte­

nance jobs that m ust be carried out 

after the follow ing mileages:

Routine Maintenance

Inspection at

1300 -  1600  km /  800 -1 0 0 0   miles 

Lubrication Service every

8000  km /   5000 miles 

Maintenance Service every

24 000 km /15 000 miles 

Additional W ork every

48 000 km / 30 000 miles

In the case of low mileage operation, 

the  Maintenance Service m ust be 

carried o u t at least once every 
2 years.

Engine Oil and  Filter Change

Required every 8000  km/5000  miles, 

o r at least once a year when  using 
year-round m ultigrade oil; otherwise 

at least tw ice a year (spring and fall). 

Under severe operating conditions or 
if diesel fuels with high sulphur 
co ntent (in excess of 0.5 %  by 

w eight) are used, the oil and filte r 

should be changed every 4000 km / 
2500  miles.

Severe Operating Conditions

In the case of severe operating 
co n d ition s o r heavy use mainly in city 
tra ffic or over sh o rt distances, fre ­
quent mountain driving,  poor roads, 
dusty and muddy conditions, trailer 
operation, hard and sporty driving 
etc.,  it may be necessary to  carry out 
maintenance w ork at sh o rte r than 
normal intervals, e.g.:

Engine:  Oil change w ith filte r change 

every 4000 km /2500 miles 

A utom atic transm ission:
Fluid change w ith o u t filte r change 
every 24 000 km /15 000 miles 

Tires:  Inspect

A ir cleaner:  Clean or renew element

Non-scheduled MB Maintenance

 

Service

Every 24 000 km /15 000 miles 
Maintenance Service consists of 
3 sections (General and  Lubrication 
Service, Engine Maintenance, Safety 

Inspection).  Perform ance of these 

sections can  be requested indivi­
dually if particular driving conditions

so require, o r on a precautionary 
basis before leaving fo r a long trip.

Special  Maintenance Measures

Brake fluid 

should be renewed 

annually, preferably in  spring.

The coolant 

should  be checked fo r 

sufficient protection before the start 
o f and during the cold season.  Flave 
the coolant  (w ater/a n ti-co rro sio n / 
antifreeze mixture)  renewed not later 
than after three years  (see “ Fuels, 

Coolants,  Lubricants, e tc .’’).
