Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS)
In addition to the th ree-point seat
belts, this vehicle is equipped with an
airbag (1) and a knee bolster fo r the
driver, and w ith an em ergency te n ­
sioning retractor (2) fo r the fro n t
passenger. The airbag is located in
the steering wheel hub. The te nsion­
ing unit is attached to the re tra cto r of
the fro n t passenger’s th re e -p o in t seat
belt.
When used in conjunction with the
th ree-point seat belts, the airbag and
em ergency tensioning re tra cto r p ro­
vide im proved fro n t occupant p ro te c ­
tion.
The “ SRS” is designed in such a
way that it can only provide its
supplem ental protective function
in case of a severe frontal impact.
Its additional protective function
will only be effective in accidents
of this type. It is always necessary
fo r the driver and fro n t passenger
to have their seat belts fastened,
otherwise, the airbag cannot pro ­
vide the intended supplem ental
p rotection fo r the driver, and the
fro n t passenger will have no
p rotection whatsoever.
